The Seven Chakras
The Chakras are energy points or vortexes that are linked to physical health, emotional stability and mental clarity, and your energetic spiritual self. They act as conductors, controlling the flow and filtering energy from the heavens above and the earth below so that they can combine and become one. Become your energy. When the two energies converge these energy fields form a chakra. Chakras are a vortex of moving and melding energies.
The resulting energy then stimulates the endocrine organs in the body to secrete hormones into our system. The secretions enter into our bloodstream and it is especially important to note that hormones control our bodies. They also affect our state of mind and affect us energetically. Look at the chakras as a filtration system as it purifies our energy from the universe, earth and each other. The physical plane is associated with primal instincts and basic animal nature. The chakras help turn it into the refined spiritual energy that connects us with the source of all with life itself. When you journey through the chakras, clean and remove blocks, you open the path for healing, psychological development and spiritual growth to happen.
The main chakras have colors associated with them and are as follows:
#1. Crown Chakra, top of head and color purple. Its role may be envisioned similar to the pituitary gland, which secretes hormones to communicate to the rest of the endocrine system and also connects to the central nervous system via the hypothalamus. The thalamus is thought to have a key role in the physical basis of consciousness. This chakra brings in universal source energy. It brings inner wisdom and other inner aspects, which deal with the release of karma, physical action with meditation and mental action with universal consciousness.
#2. Brow Charka (third eye), middle of forehead and color indigo. This chakra is linked to the pineal gland. The pineal gland is a light sensitive gland. The third eye involves balancing the higher & lower selves and trusting inner guidance. The inner aspect relates to the access of intuition and deals with visual consciousness and intuition, and psychic abilities.
#3. Throat Chakra, center of throat and color blue. It relates to communication and growth through expression. This chakra is paralleled to the thyroid, a gland that is also in the throat, its responsible for growth and maturation. It governs issues such as self-expression and communication, physically, communicating, emotionally, being independent, mentally, fluent thought, and spiritually. It helps with a sense of security.
#4. Heart Chakra, center of chest heart high and color green. Related to the thymus, located in the chest. The thymus is part of the immune system and part of the endocrine system. This chakra governs complex emotions, compassion, tenderness, unconditional love, equilibrium, rejection and well being. Also circulation, emotionally, unconditional love for the self and others, mentally, passion, spiritually and devotion. It is the seat of healing for self and others.
#5. Solar Plexus Chakra is near the navel and the color is yellow. It’s related to the metabolic and digestive systems along with the adrenal glands and the adrenal cortex. This physical energy is the seat of personal power, fear, anxiety, opinion-formation, introversion and transition from simple or base emotions to complex. Physical, digestion, mental, personal power, emotions, expansiveness, spiritual—essentially all matters of growth. It is the connection to your physical world.
#6. Sacrum Chakra, in sacrum area and color is orange. It relates to the testes or ovaries and the genitourinary system and the adrenals. This chakra involves relationships, violence, addictions, basic emotional needs and pleasure. Physical, reproduction, mental, creativity, emotional, joy, spiritual, enthusiasm, and bringing forth evolution of spirit.
#7. Root Chakra, at base of spine and a little below and color is red. It is related to earth energy, instinct, security, survival, and our basic human potential. It has the fight-or-flight response when survival is under threat. Kundalini energy will rise from this chakra. Energy here is related to sexuality, lust and obsession. Mentally, stability, emotional and sensuality, spirituality and security.
These are the seven major chakras. There are also 12 minor chakras and four of these are center of hands and soles of feet, and I feel are important. The other minor ones coincide with points of the body internally and externally. Remember each chakra is a center of activity that receives, assimilates, and expresses life force energy. If they are blocked in any way they affect all parts of our life. Energy chakra work is used in Acupuncture, Tai Chi, Reiki, Yoga, Qigong, and is an internationally recognized area of healing.
